The Poppieswalk 55 km starts near the impressive Menin Gate in Ypres. The ultimate challenge goes via Ypres Salient, Heuvelland and the green outskirts of Ypres past the most World War I sites. The finish line is near the Passchendaele Museum.

Via the Memorial Passchendaele Museum 1917 in Zonnebeke and the Ypres green belt, it goes to the Menin Gate, symbol of peace and the finish line of the Poppieswalk 35km.

Starting in the vicinity of the imposing Menin Gate, you pass through Ypres Salient, Plugstreets, Messines, the Ypres woods and Bellewaerde Ridge, past the most remarkable sites of the First World War. The finish is near the Passchendaele Museum.

Taste the atmosphere of the Poppieswalk with a green-rich circuit around Ypres Salient. Start in the wake of the 55, 35 & 25 km participants. End point is also Passchendaele Museum.

This is our story

The concept of the Poppieswlak grew out of the Via Sacra - Western Front Way, a 1000 km long walking route that connects the entire Western front line between Nieuwpoort in Belgium and the Swiss Pfetterhouse. Of these, 96 kilometers run through the Westhoek, where the Western Front Trail is designed to become a place to walk, reflect on the atrocities of the war and a lasting memory of the fallen during the First World War.

HOW CAN YOU PARTICIPATE?

Participation at the Poppieswalk is only possible through pre-registration. Registration on the day itself is not possible. There is a choice between four distances: 55, 35, 25 & 18 km. The various distances always depart from a different partner city. All distances end in the vicinity of the Menin Gate in Ypres. Participants can optionally and against additional cost sign up for bus transport to the starting location in Zonnebeke
